Winterthur Fairytale

From my first conversation with Emma, I fell in love with the fairytale aesthetic she was hoping to achieve. The Winterthur Museum is such a beautiful, historical venue, and I wanted to make sure we paid tribute to it while still incorporating Emma + Ryan’s lively personalities. Periwinkle blues, lavender purples, and hints of sage green were the perfect color palette for a whimsical spring wedding, capturing a soft sunset on the water.

These two live on a beautiful lakeside, and it’s their favorite place to be. Lakeside sunsets watching the herons fish – that was the inspiration that tied all of these pieces together. For Emma + Ryan, I painted the view of their lake in a loose watercolor style, reminiscent of the museum’s art collection. We tied the wrap using an iridescent twine for some added shine, and finished it off with a heron wax seal from Artisaire.

While the painting was the star of the show, printed on a translucent vellum jacket to give extra depth and dimension, this suite was full of personal details through and through. I hand-lettered their names in a modern style that Emma fell in love with, and I created a custom monogram featuring a heron illustration.

Emma + Ryan’s invitations were printed on a bright white cotton paper, providing a stunning stark contrast to the painted vellum wrap and an iridescent periwinkle blue envelope liner. For their keepsake invitation, we added silver leaf edges for an extra wow-factor, and included a print of their custom drawn names backed with the painting of their lake.

On the day of, we carried their favorite elements through into their welcome sign, table numbers, seating chart, and guestbook sign. Our work was even used as the inspiration for their stunning 4-tier cake. All in all, this magical wedding came together in the perfect mix of artful whimsy.
