Double Happiness

It was the start of 2020 when Anne reached out to me completely overwhelmed with her May wedding. We worked quickly to secure their vendors, come up with a full design plan, and get started on their invitations. It was the day after they signed off on their mockups that the initial COVID-19 lockdown began. We held off as long as we could on printing their invitations, and ultimately they had to make the decision to postpone their wedding to April 2021. Unfortunately, this was not the last postponement they would have to make…

The original plan was to incorporate their Chinese culture with bold pops of red throughout the design. We would then use lighter tones like blush pinks, whites, and creams to fill out their florals and give everything a flourishing springtime aesthetic. Their invitations were going to have beautiful watercolor florals and gold foil printing, with a show-stopping red wrap. It was the perfect palette for a spring wedding.

In the new year, with COVID-19 still rampant, they decided to postpone again to April 2022. We were able to keep their vendors and stuck to the plan for a spring aesthetic since it would be the same time of year. Well, little did I know I was going to get a call from Anne that changed everything – that following September, she broke the news that she and Eddie were expecting – and they were due just four days before their new (new) wedding date! It was a mad dash to replan their wedding for the third time, now for December, just three months away.

Miraculously, we were able to keep all of their vendors on board, but downsized to a more intimate venue. They cut their guest list down, and we worked together to redesign the day to fit a winter wedding style. Deep greens, bold coppers, and ivory tones were brought together for their stunningly elegant winter wonderland. Everything changed, from their florals to the invitations, and it turned out to be one of the most beautiful weddings we’ve done.

Anne + Eddie’s invitations featured line-drawn ivy as a nod to the architecture of their venue. We did a two-color letterpress print job with a deep green and no ink, and we hid the special Chinese Double Happiness wedding symbol amongst the vines. Each detail was carefully drawn by hand, and every wrap was completely one of a kind. We hand-illustrated 40 emerald vellum wraps with a foil pen to add copper foil ivy to the corners. Each piece was hand painted with copper leaf for an extra luxury touch. To tie it all together, we used a beautiful chiffon ribbon with a copper Double Happiness wax seal.

On the day, our designs continued through their shot-glass escort card display, place setting menus, and signage. Production assistant Stephanie created all of their beautiful frosted acrylic signs, complete with copper leaf detailing on the welcome sign. Frosted glass candle holders served as the table numbers, and they looked absolutely stunning aglow from a candle within.

In addition to their wedding ceremony, they celebrated their love with a traditional Chinese Tea Ceremony. Both were equally beautiful with special flower arrangements made for each occasion. For their reception, full garlands of magnolia leaves filled the long tables, and from the ceremony decor through the reception, everything was as lush and rich as a winter wedding should be. To end the evening, Anne + Eddie cut into their cake to reveal the gender of their newest addition. It’s a girl!

In the end, Anne + Eddie’s wedding day was one for the books! Everything turned out spectacularly, from the stationery to the decor to the gender-reveal cake. The love these two share is so special, and I’m so glad I was able to be a part of their wedding story.

Little Eleanor made her way into the world on April 17, 2022. Double congratulations, Anne + Eddie!
