Alistaire + Rob came to me after finding Dragonfly Paperie on Instagram and falling in love with our work. They knew they wanted their wedding day to feel personal to their love story, but they weren’t quite sure how to execute it. We had a planning consultation to talk through their wedding goals and design their dream aesthetic, so that when it came time for invitations we were on the same page and ready to get the ball rolling.
These two met through Coffee Meets Bagel, and for their first date they agreed to wear sweatshirts and sweatpants to take the pressure off. They went to a local pub, ate wings and drank beer, and talked for 5 hours. A few years later, Robert planned a surprise proposal. Alistaire had been asking to get photos taken of them with their dog and horse, so he coordinated with a photographer to make it happen. Behind the scenes, he got her friends to take her out to get her nails done and pick out a nice outfit. He told her that he got a photographer to meet them at the barn and take those family photos she’d been dying to have. During the photoshoot, Alistaire turned around to Rob on one knee, and she had no idea it was coming!
Their stationery was so important to them. I was so thrilled to have helped them pull an overall wedding vision together, and it was exciting to then move into their invitation designs. For Alistaire + Rob, I illustrated a custom monogram full of intertwined botanics, hidden amongst them line drawn portraits of their beloved pets – dog Gracie, and horse Damascus. The monogram shone in a beautiful champagne foil, as well as a custom oversized oval wax stamp design. A line drawn venue illustration in addition to a venue painting, deep green letterpress, extra-thick cotton paper, and curated vintage postage all added to the upscale, fine art quality of this invitation suite.
Alistaire described her gown as Aubrey Hepburn meets Grace Kelly. Her wedding dress truly set the tone for the day, and all that followed radiated class. Dusty rose tones accented whites and greens, marrying the end of summer with the start of fall in a gorgeous neutral palette. Robert’s midnight tuxedo was a perfect touch to bring their vibrant personalities into the vibe, as opposed to the classic black tuxes that his groomsmen wore. Their outdoor ceremony space flourished with florals, bringing in a cozy atmosphere full of love.
Our design elements were seamlessly carried through all of their day of paper, including welcome tote bags for their guests, maple syrup favors, place setting menus, signage, and escort cards. It was great to give a second life to their painting and illustrations, and I adored painting their pets into their signature drink sign.
Since their guests were from out of town, the welcome bags were especially important to thank them for making the trip. We had the venue illustration screen printed on tote bags, and they were filled with goodies and a timeline welcome insert, including a pack of gummy bears. Why gummies? Well, in their own words, Alistaire + Rob are science nerds, and they wanted to include an equation for their guests: 1 gummy bear = 7.7 calories x (4.2 kJoule/1 calorie) = 3 minutes of dancing. It was such a unique personal touch!
A beautiful wedding day for a beautiful couple – I’m so glad Dragonfly Paperie had the opportunity to work with Alistaire + Rob to make their wedding day dreams come true!
